Community Word: Heat Waves in Red and Black / Will Illinois State University's Reggie Redbird Get a Green Vest? - Sept. 29th 2020 William Rau, retired ISU sociology professor and campaign advisor, discussed our campaign in his column. He started by discussing his environmental advocacy in relation to the University that started in 2017. After this overview he moves on to discuss our concerns with Commonfund and the Foundation's response to them. He wrote "Presently, [Reggie Redbird] is straight-laced into an oil-stained, coal-dusted corset. We think Reggie would be a better bird if he ditches the corset for a green vest." WZND: Wildfire and Hurricanes Symptoms of Fossil Fuels - Sept. 24th 2020 Catrina Peterson spoke with a fossil free team member and an SGA representative. Vidette: SEAC sees significant improvements with fossil fuel campaign - Sept. 17th 2020 Vidette reporter Chelsea Cora interviewed various members of the Fossil Free team to review the origins of our campaign and the importance of divestment for our environment and our University. Chelsea wrote "They are trying to do something that will be extremely beneficial across the country, beginning with a campaign to make a statement demanding for change." Read the article here.
WGLT: ISU Climate Activist Talk State of the Movement During Pandemic - Sept. 6th 2020 Reporter Breanna Grow discussed the current climate movement on campus with both SEAC and Fossil Free team members. Our spokespeople discussed how the climate movement has not stopped in the midst of everything going on and even related it to environmental issues. Grow reported "Students say they believe racial and environmental justice are inextricably linked: Examine one closer and you'll find the other." Read the interview here.
WGLT: ISU Student Environmentalists Voice Concern Over Fossil Fuel Investments - Feb. 28th 2020 Darnysha Mitchell and Charlie Schlenker of WGLT reported on our campaign after we delivered a public comment in front of the Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 28, 2020. Mitchell and Schlenker indicated that we, the student environmental activists, have asked the "ISU Foundation that manages university investments to analyze how fossil fuel stocks are doing".
